Good news! The formatting flaws and typos have been fixed (most of you never even noticed them), the first print run has sold out, and I am rationing book sales until the printer sends me the next print run. Imaging that – book rationing…a while new idea whose time has come. That means demand from readers is increasing and that YOU love the stories in this book.

Word to aspiring writers about publishing
The conventional publishing market is shrinking for new authors yet it has never been better for those who self-publish. How many books were published around the world just last year? One respected agent quoted that over 400,000 books published last year--so small wonder many of them didn't sell. About half of that number seems to be Christian books…although everyone quotes different stats on the number of Christian and non-Christian titles being published. Most books, including 90% of nonfiction books, never earn back their advance money (an average of $3000 for first time authors…if anything).
Thomas Nelson, the largest evangelical Christian publisher has recently been cautiously moving into some light Charismatic titles (with a toned down focus on the supernatural and power) that are written for a mainstream evangelical audience like Paul Goulet’s recent book on the Five Powers of God. TN brought out 500 new books last year. A mere 23% of these new titles accounted for 90% of their revenue. This means that only 76% of these new books accounted for only 10% of their revenue. Thomas Nelson’s CEO said they are taking a hard look at their own product creation and going to cut their new titles for this coming year "in half." So instead of 500 new books, they will make about 250 new titles. It means fewer books will be given book contracts at Thomas Nelson, the largest Christian publisher.
So, now you are probably thinking that the Charismatic book market is even smaller and harder to break into. Yup. And a great alternative is self-publishing. Yup. But even if you self-publish you need to keep three things in mind:
1) People still expect to read quality writing. Whether you write fiction or nonfiction, you need to be working on and constantly practicing the craft of writing. Many people talk about writing and even repeatedly go to writers’ conferences or purchase CDs and books on how to write, but the ones who succeed are the ones who continue to grow in their craft--and they consistently write. They write for magazines and they write fiction and nonfiction but they keep working at their writing. Serious writers who have no formal training in technique and writing for publication seek out a mentor to help guide them thorough the writing process.
2) Also you need to continually work at building your audience and presence in the marketplace. It doesn't happen overnight. Who is going to buy your book? Determine how many copies you can reasonably expect to sell – then realize that your friends and family are going to expect free books. The ones you think are going to buy your book usually don’t so you must figure out ways to expand your readership and develop your own platform for sales.
3) Don’t be discouraged. Writing is a lonely life style and it often hurts when people criticize your writing. Be bold and courageous! Be confident in the message you carry and know this – Your unique perspective deserves to be heard…especially if the words are burning in your soul…keep writing!

New economic upturn in faith – gotta story of God’s miraculous provision in your life for the next book in the Divine Intervention series?
Everyone knows that all of America is tightening up on their finances due to fears of a major recession. Everywhere I travel, I hear the stories of fear and even come under the financial anxieties myself. God has not given us a spirit of fear – but of faith!
I have heard many stories of ways in which God has provided to restore lost items, healed fractured relationships, and provided materially and financially when you least expected Him to come through. Jehovah Jirah is indeed our provider. And you know it!
If you have a compelling story about God’s miraculous provision (or know someone who does), write it up and email it me for consideration in Divine Intervention: True Stories of God’s Miraculous Provision. Let’s reverse the economic and spiritual downturn caused by fear and release faith through this book.
Please read the first book in the series so you can see what I am looking for in terms of style and content. For submission information, click here.

For Immediate Release in US and Canada:
February 9, 2008
Tharseo Publishing & Editorial Services, a Christian publishing company recently launched by charismatic author Julia Loren, is pleased to announce the birth of a new book series called Divine Intervention.
The first book, Divine Intervention: True Stories of Heaven Invading Earth is due for release March 21. You may order your advance copy at http://www.julialoren.net/.
Everyone loves a great story about divine intervention in the lives of ordinary people. Spiritual encounters are no longer the domain reserved just for prophets. Heaven is invading earth and the children of God are delighting in the revelation that the kingdom of God is nearer to them than they ever dreamed.
The book includes stories contained within three categories: Traveler’s Tales, Angels on Assignment, and Life-Changing Spiritual Experiences. A typical story included in Divine Intervention is a first-person narrative written in simple, dramatic, anecdotal style with a spiritual point hinged on scripture, that the reader can "take away" and apply to his or her own life.
The authors come from many walks of life - businessmen, housewives, students, pastors and itinerant ministers include their memorial stones marking a place in time where God met them. Their stories will release readers into the awareness that the intimate presence of God is as near to them as their own heartbeat.
The next book in the series is called Divine Intervention: True Stories of God's Provision. It is scheduled for release in late summer 2008.

Reader comments...
Julia:
I love this. It so exactly articulates what I have been feeling and I am sure many others. These stories are not just for our entertainment, or even just for our encouragement. The point of the stories is that we all should have our own stories, times when God intervenes so personally. These stories should provoke us into our own faith-filled adventures. They prepare us to recognize (the Aha!) and expect His involvement in our lives. The struggle I have and I’m sure that every Christian has, is that I have a foot in both worlds. Sometimes after coming out of a day of concentrating on producing a commercial, the spiritual world can seem so distant and my personal experiences even seem almost embarrassing...in the sense that I doubt my own experience. Yet I KNOW that the spiritual world is the real world, this life is a shadow. My goal is to have my spiritual ears (listening to the voice of the Spirit) and spiritual eyes open all the time.
I also agree that God is speaking to His children all the time. It’s not even that God wants to speak, He is speaking. And we don’t have to beg God to speak to us because He wants to and actually already is. We just have to learn to accept that sometimes He speaks in dreams, sometimes in mental pictures, sometimes through other people. He’s just waiting for us to hear and to engage with Him and then He would show us more. I just suspect we are already living under an Open Heaven if we would just take time to see it.
